Re: 147 selespeed gearbox problem
Mine was doing this - 2002, 147 selespeed. The gear indicator would start to flash, it would then have trouble selecting gears, it would even think that it was in reverse sometimes! Noticed that it would play up more as the temp got hotter.
Decided to have it looked at along with a service. They ran it through diagnostics and they needed to calibrate the clutch (or something like that) it needed 8 turns, which he said was very unusual. I then drove it for a couple more weeks, still with problems, so decided to just go for it and get it sorted.
So booked back in at the garage, i set off in the morning to drive to the garage, got within 1 mile of the garage and it slipped into neutral, and then i couldn't select anything!
Anyway, the result. The car is still in the garage as they are waiting for a new selespeed unit (Actuator) should be in monday. The cost of it? - £963+VAT, gutted! but it's got to be done as its useless at eh moment.
Sorry to have to drop that bombshell on you, but the guy at the garage did say that it was worst case senario.
Just so you know, the garage i used was NJS in pershore, worcestershire. They are an alfa specialist. The owner is called Neil and he's a good bloke. I've been impressed with the service work and advisories that he's sorted for me. They use genuine parts all round and also have a price promise - they'll match any other like for like quote. Works out cheaper than taking it to the Alfa dealership!
