Re: too many miles - about to buy jtd
Hi Mallo, yes the point is that a V6 is sooo much cheaper to buy than a smoker, but the running costs (when converted) are the same.
I could go into huge detail but when I bought my V6 it was £3K cheaper than the 2.4. My LPG conversion was £1,800. I keep a spreadsheet for running costs not including purchase price or conversion for tax reasons. The costs include everything, and I don`t skimp - insurance, tax, all tyres, servicing at an Alfa dealer (mainly) including replacing any worn parts, petrol (dual fuel you see), LPG and any extra costs such as windscreens, broken fogs and even top-up oil and bulbs. Importantly it also includes the cost of sporty intakes/suspension upgrades/exhaust/brake upgrades which have cost me an additional £2.5K over the last 4 years. Without those it would have been a lot cheaper! The final cost averages at 9.8p per mile which by your milage figures is £247 per month for fuel AND all servicing and parts.
My tank fills the spare tyre well and is quite small at 55 litres which gives an effective fill of 45 litres. 45 litres gets me 200 miles, slighly more when only cruising on the motorway, which is what I do the most of. If you want a longer range then you fit a bigger tank but lose more boot space.
