Hi
Still not got hold of an owners manual for my 147, the dealership have ''ordered one from Italy'' (2 months) Obviously there are a team of Italian scribes hard at work as we speak with quill pens and ink bottles.
Anyhow, all I need to know is do I check my oil when the car is cold, warm, or after it's cooled down a bit after being warm?

Alfa, on page 266 of my 147 manual, suggest that you check the oil a few minutes after stopping the engine (on a flat surface of course )
First you remove the dipstick, whipe it cleean with a lint free cloth and then reinsert dipstick and remove and check that it is betwen max and min.
In reality make sure that oil is always kept at or just below max as it will help the Variator last longer
Of course being different and never reading the manual,
I always check mine with the engine cold
hmm thanks for that, there is certainly a wide discrepancy between checking the oil when warm and when cold, it was halfway between the max and min marks at the weekend when the engine was cold but loads further up when warm.
I am extremely wary of overfilling as many garages tend to do this imo as they rarely wait for all of the old oil to drain properly. I always change my own oil as at least I know it has been done properly and can guarantee what brand/viscosity is used..

With a TS motor, slight overfill is better than underfill
