Hi all you Alfa people
The other day I came across a new unregistered 156 at an official Alfa dealer.
This is not such an uncommon thing, you might say, but there were a few peculiarities that I hope someone on this forum might have an idea about.
The car was described to me as a "156 sport", whatever that is. It is claimed to be a special limited edition 1-off etc etc. Here is a rough spec.
156 Revised shape body
Diesel 1.9 JTD M-Jet 150bhp
Black momo leather (later on missus when I've put out the cat)
17" spoked wheels (nice!)
Dual climate control
Metallic paint (Stromboli grey)
Bottom "skirts" at the side (but mercifully no spoiler)
Leather steering wheel & gearknob (kinky!)
Usual somewhat garish centre dash
On the face of it, the car would appear to be near to a Veloce spec, but there seems to be something unusual about it. I have been trying to think why a dealer would want to alter the standard specs of this car. The reasons I can come up with are
156 is end-of-line, & they are trying to get rid.
They had a few odd trim bits lying around doing nothing.
They are genuinely trying to come up with something novel.
They were just waiting for a sad old git like me to turn up.
What do you think?
Incidentally, the price was not much more than I would be paying over the internet, which made a pleasant surprise. My "negotiations manager", who was with me at the time, may be able to make some (ahem) modifications to that figure.
As far as the body shape is concerned, I am looking for a scaling down from the 'bus I am driving at the moment, even though I won't be able to move houses for folks anymore. I don't think the new 159 would fit the bill here, as it seems to be too large (between 156 & 166 I believe).
