Why OH Why ME!!!!!!!

Would anyone know why my car has started to make a loud high pitch whine for about 2-3 secs when i start up. It seems to be coming from the steering wheel level. It also happens after i switch off. I think it happens when i leave my wheels slightly turned.

It does not always happen though, to be honest it sounds like water pipes in an old house.

It only happens when switching on or off. It does not do it when i turn the wheels static. (I dont do this regulaly by the way)

Re: Why OH Why ME!!!!!!!

First off I would check the power fluid level.

It sounds like the initial pressure on the power steering pump from the wheels being turned is causing either itself of the belt to whine.

Our 166, if you leave it parked with the wheels not straight it will leak fluid, if its left straight it is fine - wheels straight means not pressure left in the system one day we might fix it properly - for now, we know what to do

I think mine does the same thing... I think it does the sound few times untill the engine warms, and when it's turned off

Re: Why OH Why ME!!!!!!!

Check the Power Steering Pump drive wheel Bearing.(need to remove the aux belt) Check the Power Steering fluid level. Check for Air pockets caught in the Power Steering system.(see manual for procedure)
