Myself and my mate(owner of the VW 320bhp Golf) spent all last night in the garage with Robbie(mechanic)working on my car.
Heres some pics and updates for you all to look at.
1st pic is the custom made bracket/specer that the GTA 4 pot caliper bolts onto.We had to make several brackets/spacers to get the spacing of the caliper perfect.3rd time lucky we got the spacing right.
2nd pic is a full on view of the GTA Brembo caliper and the bells and discs. The bells are custom made by Robbie from blocks/slabs of billet aluminium and go onto the hub of the car.
The Brembo Racing floating discs are 325 x 26mm in size and these bolt onto the back of the bells via 8 black allen key style bolts. This bell/disc setup is very light too.The discs are grooved/ventilated for maximum braking performance.
3rd pic is an over all view of the brakes and the KW suspension ,uprated ARBs and modified drop links
4th pic is of the Apexi Turbo Timer. Its is exactly that,a timer. This is the little computer display unit just above the Race Logic traction control system in the pic.
This little computer is wired into the Omex 700 management and the cars ignition system. When I turn off the ignition and take the key out,the turbo timer cuts in and keeps the car engine running, this keeps the oil pumping around the engine and turbo and gently cools the engine and turbo down.
When the turbo timer senses that the engine can be turned off,it cuts back out and the engine shutts down.I can get out of the car alarm it and the turbo timer will allow the engine to remain running untill it has cooled down a bit.
This is very important with a turboed engine. If the engine doesnt cool down properly, then you can stretch/snap a conrod, melt a piston,do in the shells and bearings or wreck the turbo. The turbo timer is a safety device to stop this from happening.
Im just having the car prepped for its journey(along with 6 other irish cars) to Silverstone in the UK on October 2nd for the D1-GP event.
Also if anybody wants a big brake kit like mine for their 147/156 then my mechanic is prepared to make them up.The kit will comprize of the custom caliper brackets, alloy bells and bolts and the 325 x 26mm discs.
You have to buy/find the GTA calipers yourself though.
