Many thanks to those on here who contributed to my other thread when I was looking for a car; your advice and suggestions were heeded and I am now, once again enjoying the Alfa experience
The car I've bought is pretty much immaculate and has a great wad of history with it. Many on here advised me that history, and the ability to prove the history; and the benefits of buying from an enthusiast, were more important than the number of miles showing on the clock. With that advice heeded, I found a 2000 (W) 156 1.8TS Estate with 92k that was owned by an enthusiast who sadly passed away. Lovely paintwork in the blue/green iridescent paint. You know how it is when you go to look at a car and know from first sight that this is the one, but don't want to appear overkeen and ruin the chance of haggling.....
I'll get some pictures up soon. In the meantime, hopefully you guys can advise me on the minor issues the car has:-
1) Rear wiper doesn't work (rear washer works though). I looked through the handbook and couldn't see what fuse covered this as that's the obvious first thing to check. Can ayone advise please?
2) The A/C (climate) doesn't chill. I'm not overly worried about this, but was wondering whether this is likely to just need a regas, or whether the actual compressor is troublesome on older 156's? I haven't had much time to play yet, but the Climate only seems to blow cold air into the cabin if the temperature is set to minimum (even though, unusually, the ambient temperature has been well above 18 recently!) Is this a common problem?
It seems almost nit-picking to raise the above as issues because the car drives faultlessly and looks immaculate - I still can't believe how much car you can get (and fun you can have) for £585
Very glad to be back on this Forum - it's one of the best; not like the unhelpful rabble on the Forum for my last car (please don't ask which one, because I know how easily comments get passed between Forums, and I don't want to start any silliness).
