Starting issue 156 selespeed
Hi all, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction with a problem I have.....
Car is a 2003 156 2.0JTS Selespeed, purchased by me last Friday. When I picked the car up it started and drove fine, no issues at all. Since then things have got a little strange.
The car showed the engine light along with motor control failure, so I plugged it in on saturday and it came back with fan 2 motor or something. I reset the fault code and its not come back. While doing this I replaced the battery in the key fob as it wasn't locking or unlocking the car. Since sunday when I get in the car and try to start it, I get an ABS and EBD failure warning come up, the battery appears to be dead, and all the trip info such as mileage and fuel consumption is wiped from the trip computer, as if the battery has been disconnected. After a few tries at starting the car the ABS/EBD errors disappear without a trace and the car starts as normal, without even a hint of flat battery. But all the trip info is still wiped from the computer. I've plugged the car in again since and it shows no fault codes, although I'm using a generic OBDII lead and software which could be missing something.
I've done searches on here and it appears the battery could be an issue. It is just over 3 years old, and when it appears flat and I put it on charge, it takes approx 5 mins trickle charge and the car starts no problem. Is a new battery needed?
Could it be the alarm/immobiliser? This wasn't working when I picked the car up due to a flat battery in the key fob. Since replacing this battery and using the fob to lock/unlock the car I now have this issue.
I think I can rule out the Selespeed, it works faultlessly and selects every gear without issue.
Any pointers or guidance would be appreciated, I have experience of playing with cars but this is my first Alfa so very much a learning curve.
