Firstly I'd like to intorduce myself as I am new to this forum, and a proud new owner of a 156Selespeed!
I purchased the car from my partners brother who origionally bought the car in 2007. The car was drived for all of 6 months and then sat on his drive way for 5 years..... and never moved... I never actually thought mould / moss could grown in some of the places i have seen! anyway..... after spending some money (New battery, airbag ecu, abs fuse, oil, rocker cover gasket, plugs, oil filter, sump plug, disks, pads and some industrial cleaning gear) the car passed its MOT on Saturday! was definately worth this purchase risk
Driving it to the MOT place (First time is has been drive on the road for 5 years) there is a grinding sound when changing gears from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd (or back down). 3rd to 4th silky smooth and 4th to 5th also (and back down). It doesnt jump out of gear and i havent had a problem selecting a gear either. The grind noise im trying to explain sounds like im changing gear but my foot isnt far down enough on the clutch pedal.
Anyway I'm new to the selespeed mechanics and alfas in general! I have spent a lot of time trawling through the search function of the forum and have come to the conclusion that maybe the clutch release bearing and maybe the sync mesh perhaps? but again if someone could clarify for me that would be great.
Also if it helps it was made in 1999 ('V' Reg) and has done a total of 69,000 miles. There is a good chance that its on its original clutch, unfortunately i cannot track down any work receipts other than a cam belt replacement and valve job at 67,000 miles.
Thanks in advance for any help give, from reading many posts you all seem a helpful bunch!
