Yes, its a turbodiesel......
I'd check the front suspension - the 2.4 is a heavy lump and it can get a bit saggy at the front when its done a good mileage - making your sump vulnerable to grounding and getting cracked.....the front suspension on 156s is generally prone to developing knocks and bangs....mostly safe enough but irritating. Gear linkage can get stiff on the pivot - leading to a lack of "self-centreing" on the lever - easy enough to strip the pivots and lubricate - plenty of threads on here.
Depending on its age, there are more reports of instances of rot on the floorpan - often along the inner sill area or under the front seat area, as well as a common spot near the brake pipe bracket on the front inner wing.
A good one is great though - the turbo-diesel surge from 1500 revs to 3000+ revs is intoxicating
