Expensive at 76. I paid about 45 labour and 2.50 for the bushes. So about 30 to 45 minutes labour I guess.

Its a relatively easy DIY job also if you search the forum, and feel like tackling a straight forward replacement.

A brand new plate or sub assembly would be unlikely to be cheaper IMHO.

If I remember rightly, and it's the unit that sits on the top of the gear box, I bought one for my missus' 147 last year for around 30. The gear stick never used to centre, and you had to search for the gears... although a Fiat/Alfa mechanic suggested just making the holes in the bushes even just 1mm larger. That would totally cure the problem.

It's a fairly straight forward DIY job, all you need are the bushes (about 5 from an Alfa dealer) and basic tools.
Great instructions in these two threads and increasing the hole diameter by 1mm is also covered in one of them...

Also, going from your screen name I'm assuming that you're from the Leicester area, if you don't fancy tackling the job yourself give the guys at Intaservices a call, they're extremely good...
