Smoking 2.0 jts, what to check first?

Firstly, hi fellas i originally posted this in the engine section, but Wilbur G suggested id have better luck in here. I've just acquired my first Alfa 156 JTS and absolutely loving it.

However i think in the flush of car buyers excitement i managed to miss the puff of grey exhaust smoke under hard acceleration.

But before i start to panic about piston rings and valve seals, this weekend i am planning to do a regular service (plugs, filters etc) and try to eliminate possible causes.

After a bit of searching of the forum i plan to:
change the oil to 10w60, im not sure whats in there but it looks pretty thin.
Clean the breather pipes, as a few on here suggested they can leak oil into the inlet.
compression test if i can get my hands on a gauge

Anything ive missed that might help?

Run a good dose of injector cleaner through it, the JTS is renowned for injector problems, I use an entire bottle of Reddex every 3 tanks, so far no problems yet and she's just passed 75,000.

Change the air filter, its often overlooked because its a bit more involved when it comes to changing than most cars but on the JTS you can get away with only moving the small fuse box and not remove the battery tray.

Do you know when the timing belt was last changed (should be every 36k or 3yrs, whichever comes first). It will need tensioners and pulleys too, maybe the water pump but when I had mine done a couple of months ago at Autolusso I was told that its not as troublesome on the JTS so they checked mine and gave it the all clear.

Loads of other little things that I'm sure others will add, but the ones I've mentioned are the best place to start... For all your valeting and detailing needs.

I may be wrong but to 2.0 litre jts waterpump is the same as the twin sparks even if it varies a little, the originals had plastic impellors which drop off inside causing failure new pumps have metal impellors 26 from euros.
Coming back to the posting if it smokes under heavy load its probably the bores/rings

I'm just passing on what I was told at Autolusso a couple of months ago, had they not said that I would have had it changed without question.
