Hmmm alfa warranty

Helloo, can anyone tell me if alfas 3year warranty, covers the cambelt? i have just bought the car 156 1.8, it still has 2months manufactures warranty left on it, service history is up to date, 55k miles, but previous owner could not confirm a cambelt change, and nothing is stated in service book, to confirm a change, i ask this as i have been told the belt change should be around 40k

Re: alfa warranty

I am not certain, but i think that it does cover it if it snaps. i would suggest however that you get the belt and tensioners done asap! as my 147 went at 55k costing me 2 grand. as people on this site will tell you 3 years/ 36000 miles is the safest time to get it done, bite the bullit and safe yourself some heartache!!

Re: alfa warranty

The short answer is NO - Alfa deem it to be a consumable.

My own experience of having a belt go on our 147 at 51k and one month out of warranty (so I didn't get the chance to push them on it) would lead me to strongly advise you to get this done NOW. Whist you are about it get the variator done at the same time (another 100 or so). It cost me 1700 to get the engine repaired when the belt went. Ignore the official recommendation of 72k - 36k is now the sensible choice.

I had the belt on the GTV replaced by a local garage when I bought it at 46k - cost 450 all in.

Don't want to panic you but at 55k and, presumably, 3 years you are already living on borrowed time.

Fun these Alfas aren't they?
