Ok, I very nearly almost give in.
Originally I thought the intermittent rough running issues I had with my Ti was down to the inlet manifold swirl flaps. It wasn't. Although the control arm and the flaps are no longer connected (arm is in my shed, flaps are still on the manifold.....) it seemed like something else was the cause of hesitancy, loss of power and other things as posted before here http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...dm-ti-ill.html
Upshot was I had the EGR off and I cleaned it, all seemed functional and OK. I replaced the vacuum hosing as the symptoms seemed to tally with what others have experienced. They were a wee bit perished but in truth not too bad.
No difference to how the car ran.
New K&N filter fitted to replace the dirty one in the car. No difference.
As I'd run out of options the car went off to the dealer, they replaced the EGR valve diagnosing a minor fault in the EGR. But after picking it up late on Friday (ie. just as the garage was shutting) the car started coughing and spluttering after just a few miles across Inverness.
Anyway, it smoothed out a bit when on the open road and I could give it the 'beans'.
On Saturday I whipped the new EGR off and fitted an ebay sourced EGR flow restricting plate/gasket (the one before the EGR) and you know it went like a proper rocket again, very smooth, very nice power delivery. Up until yesterday that is. Sat in traffic at lunchtime and the dreaded MCSF light came on
Fortunately I can get a loan of a Sealey code reader and after plugging it in the error code was showing low flow at EGR. Cleared the fault down but the fault reappeared again last night when I got home, 15 miles of driving no issues but as the car sat at tick-over whilst I opened the gate up came the error again.
So with my first coffee this morning I cleared the same code down again.
When the postie delivered something I had been waiting for ages, I was on my third cup of coffee and functioning OK. I was almost cheerful.
My thinking was this...... amongst the post was the envelope I had really been waiting for as it contained the 'revised' gasket 55225287 that fits between the EGR and the inlet manifold. I fitted it and whipped the other one out as, they way I see it, a flow restricting gasket before the EGR is likely to cause issues (as I had experienced) and whilst I could drill it out to make the flow better why bother when I had a 'OE' gasket that will do the job?
So I had high hopes but nope.... it's still 'coughing' and juddering, particularly at low speed / light throttle.
I had seen a fair bit of hazy smoke coming from the airbox so I whipped off the pipe bringing gasses back to the inlet. No difference, bolted it all back. Quite a lot of smoke that.
I've had the MAP (not MAF) out, cleaned it (was fairly dirty) put it back. Still not right.
Where do I go from here?
Have I missed anything? This is starting to do my head in!
