Sportwagon parcel shelf

My new 156 Sportwagon has a very annoying squeak coming from the rear pull out vinyl parcel shelf or flap (what do you call them?).
When the shelf/flap is rolled back into the housing the squeak goes away.
Is this a common problem? any quick cures for it?
I have not yet had time to fully investigate, but I can't get the thing to squeak by pulling or jiggling the shelf when the rear tailgate is open.

I've been driving around with an Atari Teenage Riot CD playing very loud to drown out the noise . It certainly wakes me up when driving to work in the morning.

Re: Sportwagon parcel shelf

When I first got my car my dealer replaced the "tonneau" (sp) cover under warranty. I never new there was a fault with it at all but I got a brand new cover. Apparantly there was a recall on some of them.

I sometimes get a squeek similar to you decribe but I've found it is from the seat backs in the rear rather than the cover. Normally pulling down the rear of the seat and putting it back up again resolves the issue.

Re: Sportwagon parcel shelf

I thought it may be the rear seat squeaking. The smaller of the split seats has to be slammed into place really hard to make it catch. Maybe something needs adjusting there.
But, the squeak goes away when the cover is rolled up. I think there may be a washer or spacer inside the roll that is rattling when the cover is pulled out.
Interesting that yours was replaced under warranty.
Any one else had one replaced ?
