Funny how all this talk relating to price versus condition and you get what you pay for blah, blah
So my last 156 V6 on a V plate should be a dog by all accounts eh!
It cost me absolutely nothing
I swapped it for a Ford Ka 1.3 03 plate.
The previous owner wanted a car for his daughter to learn and pass her test in.... I wanted a Busso...
I got the better part of the deal imo and in nearly three years of ownership it has cost me not even £200 yet in service items
It had a full service history, one owner, every bill and receipt even for things like bulbs and wiper blades!
Every mot certificate, and even all the old tax discs. Cam belt , waterpump and guides/ tensioners on both belts done just 800 miles previous to my ownership and a brand new stainless steel exhaust at the same time. The car was and still is fantastic.
No... It's all down to how well the car has been looked after previously, how careful you look at one and knowing exactly what you are looking for in terms of problems and common issues.. But...
Above all else...
Being patient, knowing when to walk away and never let your heart rule your head until the check list is full of ticks after the test drive and a very thorough inspection....
I actually gave the same courtesy to the previous owner on my car by putting it on ramps and letting him have a good root around and flicking through all the comprehensive history I also had for the Ka.
We also swapped photos over the day's previous to meeting.
There are good cheap V6 busso's out there still... Age and price are certainly NO guarantee to getting a good one... Knowledge, experience and doing homework is
