Hi peeps, Passenger side is awful and drivers side now starting to 'TOCK TOCK TOCK'

How much to get it fixed and what steps do I need to follow in order to get it done properly?

This might be a seriously unusual idea but I will tell you a secret - if you read the thread, quite often there is a link to another thread which covers off the guide. Take a look at post number 3 which seems to have a word doc showing you how to do it. Alternatively, google "alfa dodgy door check straps" which will direct you to a how to on this very forum.

A bit outside the box, I know...but give it a try - you might just find what you're after!

Follow the instructions, take your time and feel proud when you are done.
Easy job and the instructions are very good. Take care tightening the nuts on the door (do them first) and then the bolt on the A frame. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
The part is easily available but remember each door has it's own part so make sure you get the correct one. Ebay can be your friend.

Anyone found any door pull plugs anywhere? Need one for each side. Going to replace the door strap same time as replacing the door hinge on drivers side, also going in for potential rear bushes this week ...could be an expensive month..

Order them here and they list the handle caps as well, but not separately, might be worth an email though.

Did mine today, driver's side. Now silence when opening and closing the door....bliss.

While the door card was off I had a look at the grab handle, easy enough to remove from the card, have ordered some Plasti Dip from Amazon....next little job.

All the best

Was that part number 50512114 to fit GT driver side ?

Had a quote to supply and fit - 100. Might have a crack at doing this myself.

I thought that 100 was a bit rich.

Just do it yourself.
Not many tools needed, just patience. The weather is good right now and the beer is cold. The grin you will have when you hear nothing opening the door will be bigger than the grin you will have saving 100.
Nike - just do it!

Well I've just changed mine this evening. Very straightforward.

The new one looks like it has one less dimple in it for the door opening (where it holds it at different points) and is of an all metal construction. The one that came off had plastic surrounds to it.

The end result whatever the design change, is a nicely silent door

Is it the same check strap for the three door 147 as it is for the five door? I am about to order a pair as mine are driving me up the wall now.

Not sure but I think they are the same, no wonder they fail quickly on heavy 3 door

I was under the impression that was a short term fix.

One guy had it for over a year, and someone has used waxed whipping twine which is more robust to kill the dreaded sound!

Well, I did mine this morning. Not at all difficult - 30 minutes to remove the panel and install (haven't put the panel back yet as I want to tidy the handle).

The guide posted on the first page is very helpful - thanks to the author.

It's apparent that the door panel has been off before and very unsympathetically put back - bent clips, and a threaded screw. Also found a bit of metal in the bottom of the door, which I can't identify, so I've made some weight savings as well

EDIT: It helps having the right tools - for the GT a small socket set, and a ratchet screw driver with an Allan key bit.

Just ordered mine. They are the same for the three door and five door models and the GT. Will do this one night next week. I can't get the plastic screw covers for the door cards though.

I just fixed my door straps using the 'dental floss ' fix. Simply wrapped the joint where the washers were over and over. Takes about 10 mins per door to do properly. Now they are both totally silent for the cost of 2.
The guys who suggested it are genius's. Thank you. If your doors are driving you crazy this is a must do fix!
