Here are the pics of my calipers, mine looked a lot worse than yours with peeling of the lacquer in the same areas as i said before.... following my accidental removal of more lacquer via the karcher i then carried on and removed as much as i could of the loose lacquer leaving a pink coloured caliper, the paint on the rears is very thin so better off scrubbinig clean, again these will appear matt and pinkish. (Edit: You can see the calipers better if you click on the image, thought it would come in bigger than that!)
As i said i panicked after seeing the mess i had made and so had nothing to lose in spraying with the high temp lacquer and as you can see it looks really good, cant even see the joins where the old lacquer was still attatched. Even better i left them on the car with just some basic masking.
I looked into a full refurb on the net and it was looking about £600 all in by a specialist BUT that would be in standard red (bright) not the darker Alfa red, something else which put me off painting them.
Hope this helps, the lacquer was standard high temp stuff for engine bays etc, might have been the VHT stuff, it was an ornage can, will update when i find it!
Just remembered... i also applied some paint sealant to the caliper after as well and now the dust washes off without any fuss, Auto Glym Extra Gold
