147 JTD - Turbo problems - Any help?
New to the forum. Wanted to share my story of my recent'ish 147 1.9 JTD, and the problems I've had with my turbo.
Basically I got the car last year and the turbo worked fine, kicked in around 3k revs, but always blew a cloud of smoke out the back. Tad annoying but I lived with it!
Soon after, the dreaded electrical problems started inside the car (ie. windows didn't work, etc), and I had to reset the ECU a couple of times. I'm fairly sure that after one of these restarts the turbo stopped kicking in around 3k - and has never been seen again since.
A few weeks later, my car started blowing black smoke heavily and becoming really jumpy, until it got to the point where it conked out completely on a roundabout (sods law eh?!).
Took it to a garage and they told me the EGR valve was heavily blocked, and they cleared that out. Turns out my top turbo hose had a huge slit in it and it was suggested this caused the blockage. So the EGR was cleaned and the top turbo hose was replaced (the engine bay was covered in black soot from the leakage from this).
Once the garage cleaned out the EGR the car ran fine and the black smoke chilled out (though still appears everytime I really put my foot down). No turbo boost though - gutted.
I then replaced the lower turbo hose, assuming this was causing the lack of turbo but even after I did this the turbo still hasn't come back.
So my analysis - though I really need your help - is that it is either a dodgy turbo, egr valve needs replacing, an ecu problem or something else? BTW I get an annoying warning light pop on my dashboard (I think it's the airbag light) intermittently, don't know if it's connected?
Any help at all guys and gals would bu HUGELY appreciated. The car runs fine, though I miss the turbo and assume I'm probably losing a little MPG too.
