147 rear stub axle bushes...a how to/not to...

Evening all.
Thought i'd share a job and chuckle with you, lightening your friday evening...

Ok, so the alfa 147 i bought had been unloved by previous owners. Lots of knackered bits and things worn out, you know the story. So, according to the long suffering mrs egon, i buy "projects" not cars, i fix all the duff bits (and usually sell it at this point, getting bored!).

Job #231: Fix the rear stub axle bushes.
Symptoms: clunky squeakyness and general wobblyness from the back end.
Cure: change the stub

Up on axle stands:

The culprit:

Undo the creaky beggar:

So, after pulling the bar free, removing the washer removed.....the bush FELL out.

Pull the bolt out:

Employ the standard Alfa Tool kit:

WEIGHT SAVING!! Enjoying "cack in eyes" moments:

Batter 8 shades o' sh8 out of the outer ring till it comes out:

Tidy up with emery cloth and files.

Put the bolt back in. Then put the new bush up to the hole.

Big Socket:

Using half the Alfa tool kit, persuade the new bush into its home by battering it on the OUTER ring. Dont hit the inner ring. It will break.

Put it all back together in the order it came apart:

Be happy.

Dont hit yourself in the side of the head with the trolley jack handle as youre jacking it up either. Optional but painful.

Happpppppy. much nicer and very steady back end.
