Have you tried clearing the error code with Multiscan? Early 2004 cars may still require resetting.
There may also be trim pieces holding the carpet in place that you'll need to remove to free up access.

You have a couple of options. You can contact Rarebear and buy one of his modified KKL leads or search eBay for 'Alfa diagnostic cable's and buy a set of leads from Buy-From-Dan (it will be a KKL lead and a set of adapters). The whole lot should cost less than 25.

On the subject of disconnecting the battery:

1. Is it just the negative terminal to remove, or does pos need to come off also?

2. How long is it safe to leave it disconnected without upsetting the immobilisor?

Thanks!

Good to know it works on the GT as well. I no longer have the 156 but have just bought a Blackline and you've saved me investigating for myself!

They're exactly the same car, just have a different body.

GT 2.0 JTS

Fixed my airbag light yesterday - servisol on the connections under the front seats; many thanks to the O.P.

As this is the second time I've needed to do this (first time about 2 years ago) I thought it would be a good idea to sort the connectors in the boot as well - more as a preventative than anything - but I couldn't find anything airbag related behind the lining in the boot. The only wiring I found was for the petrol flap and the rear lights. Mines a JTS so obviously the wiring is different on these.

If any one knows where to find the wiring on a GT JTS I'd be very grateful.

Just had my 156 2002 failed MOT on air bag light which is in the left hand corner of the little black screen, does that mean it's the passenger side air bag or could it be any?

Live in Nottingham do you know the best place to take it, that's not going to, get me ripped off.

Regards

Kingdom

Could be any mate. I'm just off junction 22 of the M1 (just outside Coalville). If you can get over here I'd be more than happy to sort it for you free of charge as long as it's just the connectors. I have multiecuscan and the required connectors.
I should be free all weekend and most of next week if that helps.

Tom.

I have a 2006 147 2 door. Have done the connector under the passenger seat, but the light is still on. Is there anything in the boot, or do I need to buy the cable to clear the fault?

Did you read with FES for fault airbag? Because it can be any of them ...

You need to spray the connectors and attached and discountect them a few times first, loads of contact cleaner as well.

You need first to check which one is fault
Second if your car is pre 2004 year, error can be cleared only with cabel and FES.
Had the same problem with my 2001 147

Good luck

Cheers.

So there are no wires in the boot to clean? I just have to find the fault code and clear it. My car is 2006.
