So Sunday night as I left a car park I struggled to get 2nd gear, but managed to get it in the end then was fine all the way home. Same thing again when i left work Monday evening.

Driving to work I heard something flick up underneath the car but didn't think anything of it. Went to turn my car around after work and as I got to full lock, there was a loud clunk noise so moved it out of the road, then noticed there was oil where I was parked. Checked all the fluids and they were as they should be. Jacked it up and had a look around the gearbox, could see oil on it then noticed this big hole

Pretty sure thats not supposed to be there? Is there supposed to be anything connected or just piece of the casing?

Took a gamble and drove it home, all gear changes were fine and there were no noises, just more oil on the road when I got home, (max 10 min drive).

One thing I did notice was when I first pulled off again from work the car wanted to pull left but soon corrected itself after a few seconds.

So after that essay, where do I stand in terms of how long it will last, new gear box or repairable? Gutting thing is I was going to put the car up for sale this weekend :(

That defiantly doesn't look normal...
Dont drive the car with no oil in the gearbox.

You might be able to get that repaired if you can find someone who can weld aluminium, thats if there is no internal damage...
Hopefully that hole was created from something outside the gearbox rather than something inside the gearbox

Needs a replacement box I'm afraid, your diff has failed by the looks of it and some of it has come out through the bellhousing. Check the gearbox dipstick, you will have surely have lost a considerable amount of oil.

My only similar experience was a Xsara. A gearbox race collapsed and one of the rollers got between the diff and the case, punching a hole in it. It's replacement box time 'cos if you try to drive it it's likely to seize either through lack of oil or more bits coming adrift or both.

Where abouts in the country are you? R&R for a V6 gearbox is a good 6 hours, and you might find there is visible damage to the clutch too. I reckon you need to think about what the car is worth as it is, what it is worth fixed and how much it is going to cost to sort, you might find its not worth it unless you can do the work yourself.
