Re: advice on a 2nd hand 156
Of the top if my mind, i can think of
corroded wing mirrors
msising or cracked under engine guard
beginning rust in the chassis joints below the doors, at the lowets point of the front wheel arches, on the roof around the windscreen area, general rust problems under the car if it has not recieved any anti rust treatments.
hole in carpets around the drivers fotwell.
look out for wet or damp carpets in the footwells as this might indicate other problems.
Creaky suspension means worns bushes and/or wishbones. quite common, and not too expesive to fix.
Broken Variator, idle speed problems, broken Mass Airflow Meter.
But most of all look out for the cambelt... it's a killer and WILL snap if you go beyond the service interval.
Find a car with as few owners as possible. With the 156 it really is worth the extra money to get one, that has been well looked after.
Nearly forgot.. the Twin Sparks like to drink oil, and some of them like to drink lots of it..Make sure your engine is always topped up if you do get one..go below the MIN mark, and you WILL be punished severely.
