It's a tricky situation Marlon.
First of all , do a google search for "ECU REMAP INDUSTRY STANDARDS"
and see what you get... If you can find a regulatory body for ECU remaps and tuning boxes then good luck
If there is actually a professional qualification specifically for this please someone feel free to correct me, it just seems unusual for such a large market force that no actual specific City & Guilds certification is available!
Being "good" at something doesn't make a certified professional after all!
You wouldn't exactly bring a car to me for MOT if I wasn't a VOSA qualified Nominated tester, would you?
We just get recommendations from customers who have used them... Bearing in mind that many of them can't tell where the oil dip stick is or how to check a battery terminal or replace a bulb!
But they can certainly praise and rave on about their car being better and quicker after a remap
You have to take all things in consideration.
A tuning box can be removed if it doesn't work out by yourself... That's a good thing, thank God!
A full on remap on the other hand, you are stuck with until reverted back at your own cost back to standard setup... But they do give you a cd with the original map on it!
It's a mine field mate, step on the wrong one and you are going to end up bleeding... (money) badly in costly repairs that I am sure we all know by now, the Alfa Romeo range is just about close to it's limit of design as far as tolerance to torque is concerned.
I am not saying do it or don't... just be careful so you don't end up ruining all the work you have done on your car.
Please don't get me wrong here... I AM NOT AGAINST TUNING IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM
It's just that I notice a hell of a lot of forum members post about getting ECU remaps and tuning boxes fitted and rave on about them....
Then the same members mysteriously end up posting about running issues, smoke and clutch problems a few month later... The first thing I do is check their previous posts for what they have done and then advise... If the same members took the time to read their own posts, they would find their own solutions and reasons
I just want to balance this discussion out a bit and offer food for thought before going off hearsay
