OK - Firstly, I am not mechanical AT ALL other than knowing I don't want to be ripped off when I arrive at the Alfa dealership!
I have grabbed some really good info from this forum before so ......
This morning I got into my 2002 147 and turned the key. Selspeed failure warning lights up on dash, not too worried as it (hopefully) relates to a faulty paddle that I am aware of. Continue to drive with no issues other than that bl*@#dy beeping. Although I am hoping / assuming warning relates to paddles I know that it may be something else, just before I get home to check selespeed oil, as I slow down to stop my gear shift moves into neutral requiring manual change to 1st before moving off. Odd, hasn't done that before. All good - still moving in forward direction, back to denial with a pinch of concern
. As I moved through a roundabout gears jumped from 2nd to 3rd, no acceleration then put manually into 2nd and off we go again. NOW I'm starting to realise that this is not about the paddles
. Check selespeed oil reserviour and see it is very low - again unusal as it has not required much top up in the last 4 years. Top up with Tutela oil - as my manual suggests.
Great - I now decide my problems are over, other than the continuing of that BL*@#DY beeping
. Get to work, park car, pretend all is well - forget about it.
5pm, jump in car, optimistic
turn ignition - nothing
move gear stick finally find neutral and car starts -yay - back to denial
I check that selespeed oil is ok - check! I notice that the pump isn't priming like usually when I open the door. Weird clicking noise where priming noise should be. Hmmmm....
My questions are:
1/ Do I have a selespeed leak that is causing all of these problems that will require lots of money (actuator etc) to fix
2/ In what order should I be eliminating causes. (this is so I can check that my dealership doesn't eliminate by fixing the most expensive option first - like last time
3/ Could my battery have anything to do with this? I am having difficulty seeing the little green light - but then I always have difficulty seeing the little green light. Everything is lighting up and working
4/ While it continues to start and move in a forward motion, can I continue to drive it - please, pretty please
5/ Is there any way I can disenage that BL*@#DY BEEPING without being reset
I am not looking to fix this myself, I only wish I could, I just want to have some idea of what direction my questioning should take so that I don't look like a soft touch with deep pockets.
Thank you to anyone in advance who can shed some light
