Help Keys, the age old question + some!!!

Hello all, now own a 156 Selespeed (1999)
It came with one red key, which operates the remote central locking and the ignition, it also has a non-remote blue key which gets you into the car, but does not work the ignition. I cars price came down by 100 to compensate for this as local alfa dealer charges 90 to supply and fit a new key.

Now my questions, 1) How many keys should a 156 come with? (Don't want someone wandering about with a key to my car who isn't me)

2) Can you get a standard non-remote key cut and code it to the immobiliser as you can Fiat and Ford keys? If so how?

3) Finally, I have the CODE card for the car, which the little alfa book says I shouldn't have due to insurance reasons in UK, is this a problem?

My '98 came with two red keys and no code card. I didn't get the blue key you mention.

Not sure you can get non-standard keys for the Alfa, but I will defer to others with more knowledge.

Far as I know it is possible to get replcement keys for less than Alfa charge. Most top key places can do it......waits for some recommendations.

...and I only got one key but it should have come with two, not three (1999-2000 car).

As far as I'm aware, the 156 uses a Code II immobiliser with a rolling code - which the likes of Timpsons/Mister Minit can't copy. Older cars 145/146/155 use Code I - dead easy - and done for about 15.

I think it's an Examiner only job with Code II.
