- that's hilarious!!!
Thanks for the laugh because I think I'm going to be broke in a few hours time.
I had a call from the AA a couple of days ago saying "Good News! We're validating your claim!" So the AA are paying for £465 toward the cost (£500, minus my £35 excess).
The garage have said they identified the pieces of metal in the gearbox and will be replacing those bits - That's why the AA are validating the claim, because like Tommy156 said, Swarf indicates wear and tear and they wont validate work for that.
UNFORTUNATELY however the bill for just the new gearbox bits and labour is £855.31.
They also recommended new gear linkage cable as mine was very loose, and new clutch and slave cylinder. Total, inc. VAT £1,405.
I politely declined.
When I calmed down and thought about it, my car has done 98K miles, and while the gearbox was out, it seemed like a good idea to have a new clutch fitted for the price of the part only. No new gear linkage cable tho.
So the grand total, (I believe) will be £1,125.31, minus £465 = me to pay £660.31
I will confirm everything when it's over ...I'm holding my breath tho until I get her back.
