Hmmm GT jtdm mpg confusion? ??

Its been a while but hello again everyone. ..bit of a puzzle. Recently bought a 2008 GT Cloverleaf jtdm and getting around 38mpg whilst my previous 2005 GT jtdm never went below 48mpg. Doing same journey to and from work so I'm a bit bewildered by the difference. .any advice/idea would be greatly appreciated chaps..Cheers. ..
