36mm socket needed. Most of us have had to get an Impact socket and grind the walls down a bit to get it to fit in.
Easiest way IS to replace the hub (or "upright" is it's real name).
You would need to crack it from 2 ball joints (top and bottom wishbones) aswell.
The ABS sensor needs to be fed up behind the plastic arch liner and fed through a little hole which appears at the top beside the strut. Depending on year it will either be a beige, or a black plug/socket with 2 pins. They aren't interchangeable fitment, but what you can do is cut the the plug and a bit of wire from you original, cut the same amount off the "new" one and then join them. It works fine. Both my fronts are like that
By the way, that's only needed if you the plugs/sockets are different types.
