Gear Box failure warning Alfa 156 Selespeed Yreg
I had a big problem with my car on Friday when I came to a roundabout, had to halt, but on pressing accelerator I found the car was stuck in neutral with the gearbox warning light flashing.
Had to push the car to the side of the road and after about 10 minutes started the car and was able to select the gears. Quickly cancelled the AA !!!!
When I got home, (about a 3 mile drive), turned ignition off and then restarted and the same problem occurred but after a short while the warning light went off and I was able to select gears once more.
I have had to top up the transmission oil on a number of occasions but I find that I am losing a lot through the breather pipe on the filler cap. Where does this excess oil normally go because I notice a small drainage hole in the black cowling surrounding the reservoir but I don't have any tubing attached to the nozzle so I have transmission oil on the ground where I park. Is there supposed to be a tube for the excess oil and if so where does it end up???
Have started the car a number of times since and after initial check sequence everything appears ok but to be quite honest I have lost all confidence in the car in case it happens again.
Can anyone recommend a competent garage in or around Wisbech, Cambs that I can take it to?
Many thanks for all responses
