2006 Alfa 156 (JTS) drinking coolant
Well, well, well... I'm back at uni and subsequently, with work included, I've been covering a good 1000kms a week for the past three, and it seems to be taking its toll on the old Alfa!
With the bad weather we've been having in Perth, there's been a lot of heavy traffic, and with my peak-hour travels, a lot of stop-start freeway traffic and a slowly overheating engine.
So I've been having to physically top up the coolant reservoir every week, with it dropping down right to the bottom of the reservoir despite my (slightly pedantic) regular checks under the bonnet.
Apart from my 4000km(over a week) road trip which drank a fair bit of coolant, since January I've not had to fill up once. But this week I must have put in close to a liter of coolant, and even since my top-up yesterday, after a 120km drive it has dropped down below the 'low' markings.
So I'm haemorrhaging money on coolant, my windscreen just got cracked from a flying boulder ($608 to replace WTF!?) my N/S headlight exploded and pretty much all of the laquer has been removed from my bumper and bonnet, from my car essentially being sand-blasted by freeway spray. It really isn't my week.
What do we think it could be?
Normal because of the nature of my driving, either really slow freeway crawl, or 113kph cruising.
I can rule out the possibility of a leak, I'm on a completely flat garage floor, no leaks to report, and steep driveway would tip out any settled coolant too.
