Bit of an update and some further help/ideas.
The car went into the mechanics for about 6/7 weeks initially to get the crankshaft sensor fitted, as I couldn't physically push it in myself lying at an awkward angle under the car with little room.
Apparently this was fitted and no change. I spent the next 6 weeks or so with no communications from the mechanic and me phoning every couple of days. I believe he also fitted a MAF sensor and was about to have a look at the EGR valve (question about this to follow). To cut a long story short - the mechanic passed away, I picked the car up (now with a nasty dent/scratch on the boot panel!!
) and I was towed home.
I have since ran a diagnostic on the car and the codes:
U1600 - Electronic Key - No signal - Stored (maybe because I used the old spare)
P0340 - Phase sensor - Signal Low - Stored - Light On (saying Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction)
P0704 - Clutch Switch - Invalid Signal - Stored (probably as I had my foot flat on the clutch scared whilst being towed by a big 4x4 and not being able to see if I needed to brake!)
I've been doing some reading on the site and decided today to get a new battery (Bosch S5) as other members have said that their sensors and MSCF issues were resolved by new battery. It seems to have made things quicker, like windows and starting was easier, but essentially engine is still rough and smokey out the back.
My other question, is when using multiecuscan and you run an egr actuator test, can you hear it whilst engine is off, or do you need to be running the engine? I have previously followed the great EGR cleaning guide.
I would be very grateful of any further help/guides/tests to run from anyone. Cheers guys
