2nd gear tops out at about 65mph & 30mph is 3200rpm, so depending on the roads it is possible (especially if it is roads with low limits).
If you over-fill the Selespeed fluid reservoir it will blow the excess out through the breather hose.
The right level is only a little above the baffle plate that you see when you look in the top straight after the pump has stopped.
If you are willing to try a few things, try removing the big connectors to the Selespeed ECU (in the passenger footwell) and refit and do the same for the connector to the Selespeed actuator (beside the battery).
Treat with some electrical contact cleaner (ie Electrolube EML) if you have any.
