Shock Horror - MOT Passed

With no little trepidation I put my 115,000 mile 2.0TS Sportwagon in for its second Mot in my ownership yesterday into the independant garage that I've used for my Lotus, Saab and my daughters Ford Ka's MoTs in the last couple of years. The last MoT on the Alfa was done by a different garage, an Alfa specialist, and had a number of advisories, including worn discs front and rear, shock absorbers that 'a slightly reduced damping effect' and worn roll bar rubbers. I'd changed the front discs a couple of week ago but had left the others so was't feeling too optimistic. I'd done about 10,000 miles in the year.
It passed with no advisories. The tester was quite scathing about the advisories, especially the damper one as he had been advised by VOSA that a standard MoT can't test the dampers in any meaningful way - and mine were, in his opinion fine. There wern't leaking or anything and were working fine. The roll bar bushes were fine, as were the rear discs, and having changed the fronts they were not too bad either. That'll be the last time I use a certain Alfa 'specialist' in my home town.
So another year of legal motoring is on the cards

I've started using the local council test centre for the same reason, as they don't carry out repairs there isn't any conflict of interest.

I use a test centre also who have no real vested interest in repairing cars....They're too busy keeping the UPS vans on the rd.
