147 1.6 16v oil pressure warning
Last week after successfully changing a sticky thermostat which has been causing low temp for a couple of months, I took the motor out for a little run and all was well until I stopped at a junction and immediately got an oil low pressure warning. Parked up immediately and did the usual roadside checks ie. major leaks, unseated filter etc. There was plenty of oil on the stick as they do like to drink so I started to think the worst ( big end).Fired the car up again but there was no top end rattles. raised the revs to 2000 and warning went away but when I dropped it to idle warning was back. Taking a slight risk, I dove to my local Indi which was only 2 miles and dumped it outside his place for the night. After explaining all to the mechanic we decided he would take the sump off and see what was what. Result was bearings and shafts looked fine but the strainer was proper gunked up and after a good clean, new filter and fresh oil. car seems to be idling fine with no warnings. Cat did disintegrate when removed but I knew it was on its way out. Anyway should I consider anything else to be safe ie. oil p test or just fit an exhaust system an drive on? any previous experiences of this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
