Hi all, I am reasonably new to the Alfa forums, but I would like to ask some advice.
In January this year I bought (via Copart the Auction site) a Cat D write off W reg (Year 2000) 156 2.5 V6 Q-system with the original intentions of fixing it up and selling it on, I have always loved Alfa's and i wanted to get to know them a bit better (yea im that mad
Now for some of the prior history:
I have deduced that the car was written off due to an accident involving a duck. I found its remnants in the old destroyed airbox. So there wasn't alot of damage, but it was fixable. The Front bumper was already replaced when i purchased it.
The car has 74830 miles on the clock, with the Cam belt being replaced by the previous owner in Sept 2010 at 68000 miles along with a full service. It was written of Feb 2012 by which point it had only covered just over 6000 miles.
Originally it didn't appear that much work was required, however it soon added up.
Car Including Auction fees - £400.25
First MoT - £40
Replacement Airbox (ebay) - £25
Air Filter - £10
Oil + Filter - £90 (Sounded tappety, plus the oil was 2 years old)
Replacement N/S wing - £45 (Old one was seriously dented)
Spare Wheel tool Kit - £25
Locking Wheel Nuts - £15 (MoT Failure as 4 were missing)
Replacement Front Coils - £60 (MoT Failure as both had sheered)
Boot Gas Struts - £20 (boot wouldn't stay open)
Battery - £65 (Halfords discount card reduced from £100)
Labour & MoT retest - £90 (mates rates to have the Coils fitted)
Other/Consumables - £50
So ive spent about £950 give or take including the purchasing of the car.
Now I drove it on a private road and loved it
, my other car is Skoda CitiGo 1.0 and its such a breath of fresh air to drive something with some power
But despite this, there's still the potential to cost alot more money!
The remaining expenditure is as follows:
VIC - £40 (Not a Legal req. but if done, the DVLA will send out Tax Reminders)
VED/Road Tax, 6 Months - £121
Front Suspension Bushes - £110 (Passable on MoT but will need changing soon)
4 New tyres - £400 (Passable on MoT but will need changing soon)
Dent on N/S Sill - £150-200 (a dent on the N/S sill running from under the car to just bellow the N/S rear passenger door)
Insurance (the big killer) - £1400 for a year, or £240 a month.
Now what do you people think i should do? Cut my losses and sell as is without Tax? Spend a bit more and sell her? or Keep her and enjoy the fruits of my labour over the passed month?
