Selespeed Transmission Issue
Hi, New to the forum and owning an Alfa. I have a 2002 Selespeed and everything has been brilliant for 7 month's. However, when in City or out of City Mode, the Car will intermittently select 4th Gear and when it does it doesn't actually engage the 4th Gear. It can be driven out of City Mode and will drive ok if you miss out 4th.
I have read numerous updates that refer to either the "pinch bolt" and/or the position sensors as a possible cause and even the following "That describes a common issue where bits of broken gearbox casing get stuck in the selection mechanism and cause difficulty selecting gears, particularly 4th I think. This is easy to cure, you just take the nearside wheel off, and you can access the end plate of the gearbox. Put a tray underneath to catch the oil and remove the plate. The chances are that the bits of alloy that have broken off from a webbing inside the gearbox will come out with the oil, or you will be able to see them in there and clean them out."
Is it a plausible solution?
Is it easy?
Does any one have links to Repair Manuals or the Diag Software that work?
Please Please help...as I am loathed to take it to a garage due to the number of comments that they just like to get your hands on your money in the first instance.
