Give me strength...the Alfa strikes again! After nearly destroying my engine with a loose cambelt over Christmas I now have another issue. The rather disappointing twist being I've tried all the usual suspects with no joy. It's a 1.9 JTD16v
No power below 2.5k rpm and a shudder from the engine when I switch off. No fault codes.
What I've tried
Getting to know the JTD engine quite well now
It's not the EGR because that has two restricting plates on it, exhaust to valve and valve to manifold (don't ask).
Found a split vac hose from the vac generator on the slam panel to the solid pipe that goes up and over the engine. Replaced this morning.
Pulled the other pipe to the turbo and it has no splits or leaks.
The turbo actuator can be moved by hand (strong spring in that) and it pulls in slowly about an inch when the engine is started, it also releases when switched off. There is a vacuum if I pull the pipe off the generator whilst running so it appears to be working ok.
Pulled the MAF connector off and nothing changed apart from it chucking out black smoke when the turbo kicked in at 2.5k rpm. Reconnected and the car behaves the same but no black smoke.
I'm struggling with where to go next, are there any forum gods online? The one thing I'm not sure about is the valve that looks like a throttle body on the inlet to the intake manifold. It appears to do nothing until I switch the engine off and then moves it's full stroke an back again quite quickly.
