You need to do some research, but here's some starting material:
Drain coolant off
Disconnect stuff that's in the way - manifolds etc.
Remove all your belts
Remove head - skim head? - certainly check to make sure it's straight. Plenty of advice to suggest not skimming it could lead to another problem down the line. While it's in bits you might want to check that everything is OK, valve-wise.
Once satisifed it's OK, you can replace everything in reverse using nice, new (correct!) head gasket and all the other gaskets and new belts and bolts too.
Was the variator noisy? Swap it out if so. How was the 'stat doing? Swap it out if the car was running cold. Probs worth fitting a new water pump too. That could be why it overheated in the first place? How's the radiator? Something went t1ts up to make it boil, so have a good check on all your plumbing.
Change yer oil too?
