147 boot opening issues

Hi all

I bought my first ***** (a 2005 147 Twin Spark) a few months ago and on the most part love it.

I have had this problem every now and then since I got it. It sometimes doesn't want to let the boot open. The lights flash when you press the button on the key and it just doesn't release. Eventually it will after trying for 5 mins but it is so annoying especially when in a hurry.

As I said this happens sometimes (but seems to be more often now) but other times it works fine!

Any ideas what it could be? Is it a difficult fix?........I wish it had a handle so you could open it by hand!

Thanks for any help

Sounds like you have a sticky solenoid, might he worth removing the boot lock assembly and giving it a clean.

It's fairly simple, 4 screws in the trim panel and pull it from the car, it has retaining clips so be careful.

There is a handle on the inside of the boot, but you have to have the rear seats down and lean into the boot to access it

I had a 147 once and the boot stopped opening. After a few phone calls I was told the salenoid needs replacing. The alfa dealer requested $450 just to get this part in. I called up a wrecker and managed to get the part for $50. I got some of my friends to install it while I stand and watch like an idiot ( I am not good with screw drivers and fixing cars).

They opened the broken salenoid and inside to my big surprise everything is in cheap plastic. There is a rolling plastic bar which lock and unlock the boot. Looking at this, no wonder it broke...who creates cheap stuff like this.
