Fix it only to make it worse?!

When I bought my 156 it had a broken front drivers side abs sensor due to the garage doing the wheel bearing, I have now replaced the sensor only for the car to act differently. obviously the abs light and (!) are lit up, any way the speedo now reads way to low, like 17mph when probably doing 30. The engine also seems abit more agitated or more sensitive to throttle inputs, cant really tell with these roads, but it seems to surge a fraction on constant throttle.

Also to add, the abs light has been known to go off a couple of times when the engine has been started but only to come back on after anything from 10 seconds to 30 seconds while the vehicle has not moved. Seem to think the (!) light is a different problem, hand brake switch, fluid level thing or servo.

I do have all the usual things to check like connections and fuses.
And can someone just confirm that the EBD thingy is just the ABS unit??

cheers people

Did you disconnect the battery before changing the sensor?

Have you got the correct sensor for your year and chassis number and if so was it OE or aftermarket?
Check and cross reference on FIAT EPER just to make sure.

Most obvious thing to me would be the new sensor is not actually at the correct distance from the gear ring on the bearing to pick up the magnetic teeth... I have done the same once and it turned out to be too far away slightly due to remains of the old sensor that broke up while removed and left some plastic chunks still left in. Lesson learned

Hope this helps
