Abs making brakes noisey?
heres a right weird one for you!
I have a number of faults that are somehow linked, and I could do with some fresh ideas please?
For some time now, the brakes are less than great, and make an awful grinding noise along with a pulsing/vibrating of the pedal,
First thoughts were discs/pads so they are new up front, and soon to be new at the rear too, out of precaution more than anything.
Also for some time, when only engine braking at lower than approx 2k revs, the car feels jerky, and doesnt decrease speed smoothly, it almost feels like a minor surge from a tiny throttle/fuel input, pretty annoying tbh!
And again for some time, the cruise control cannot hold a setting of low, sub 40 mph, speed setting, it cancels itselfs as if a pedal has been touched, so I was thinking clutch or brake switch on this one,
But then today whilst travelling home on a 15 mile stretch of uninterupted dual carriageway, the nearside rear brake was squealing a bit under heat from binding lightly I suspect, and it brought up abs/vdc failures etc etc, nothing too new about warnings on a 147 though eh!
Only this time, they stayed on until the car was restarted some time later, but whilst I had warning that the abs system was inactive, failed, the braking was completely silent, the engine braking was utterly smooth, and the cruise control behaved perfectly,
This is so different to the day to day awfulness of my 147 2.0 ts, 2002 my, that from now on im considering pulling the abs fuse and bulbs except for mot time, the car is so much better of without it!!!
So, wtf is going on here?
How is an abs, vdc, ebd, osr etc fault, making my engine braking jerky, the brakes feel and sound like 30% of one disc is made from cobbled stones, and knock off my cruise control??
Tomorrow I'll be renewing the rear discs and pads, hopefully freeing off the nsr caliper at the same time if I find it a little stubborn, plus ill be plugging in the laptop but I dont expect to find much.
Any clues boys n girls?
Oh, one final thing, on my final part of the journey home, I descend a long hill, usually a terrible area for the engine braking surges whilst coasting down in 3rd/4th gear, but given what had happened earlier, i also found that whilst coasting downhill, jerks and surges galore, if I turned off the osr switch, smooth,
Knock it back on, the car instantly returns to the surging!
C'mon, tell me its something stupid, and cheap, PLEASE!!!!!!!
