156 JTS snapped Alternator belt, seized Alternator
I have a very sick 156 JTS 2.0 2002, made the mistake of not starting the car regularly and the battery went flat, not a problem I thought, get a new battery and fit, sorted I thought until I started the car, big clouds of blue smoke coming from the Alternator belt area, turned the engine off and examined the area where the smoke was coming from, couldn't see anything obvious so I started the car again, then a load breaking sound and the Alternator belt came flying out from under the car.
I ordered a new belt and tensioner and fitted, tried to start the car and nothing, starter doesn't even click, took the belt of and checked all the pulleys apart from the crank. Everything turned freely by hand except for the alternator, can you turn the alternator by hand??
started the engine with the belt off with no problems. I sprayed WD40 into the bearings on the alternator and refitted the belt, then left for 24 hrs
just tried to crank the engine and it turned over a few times then stopped so I removed the belt, but now the engine will not crank with the belt removed, have I damaged the starter motor???
Cheers for the info in advance
