Oh noooo, I'm hooked

Well my 147 1.6 has had to go but not feeling the love for anything other than alfa, I have gone straight out and bought a 147 2.0 sele !

On a whim I have checked the car over and all seems ok but need some reassurance

First worry is the auto gearbox, after 20 years of manual, will I get used to it ?

I've only driven an Alfa selespeed briefly, but it was OK. Wouldn't be my choice to be honest, and bear in mind it can be expensive to fix if you get problems, but lots of people like them.

The only thing I hate about selespeed is small roundabouts, it can't decide if it wants to stay in second or drop to first, basically pausing the whole car for a second in the middle of the roundabout. Driving a sele requires some planning at times at certain situations, mostly by using the brake to downshift a gear or learn to approach at correct speeds. But its fun to drive and very different to autos and manuals.

right, had a little play with my new toy today and have to say

now I may sound a bit like a girl here but whats the craic with parking and starting the engine ?

manual says never leave the car in neutral (why would that be ?) but it does explain the buzzer going off when I turn the engine off.

and then theres the issue with starting the engine. it doesn't like to turn over with the car in 1st or am I doing something wrong do I have to press the brake pedal harder ?

any tips for a novice selespeeder

I always park my manual in gear. That way it won't go anywhere if I leave the handbrake off. It's supposed to stop the squeaky caliper issue too but it doesn't :/
