156 1.8 sportswagon replacing indicator stalk
I have just bought an alfa 156 1.8 sportswagon. It's X reg so 2001.
I want to replace the indicator stalk which has snapped off.
I've unscrewed the upper and lower covers around the steering wheel, but I believe that I need to remove the steering wheel and airbag too.
I'm a bit worried in case the air bag explodes in my face; I've heard that serious eye injuries can result if one hits you in the wrong place.
What is the safe and correct procedure for doing this job please?
What tools do I need please?
Also, I wondered if it is possible to dispense with the air altogether?
Personally I'm not keen on them.
On the nearside of the dash to one side of the footwell is a key slot and a panel that appears to be related to the airbag system. What is this and do I need to do anything to it in the course of doing the job?
