Ok I am an IT man so I can help you with the connection stage so it can read the ECU. Don't ask me about the diagnostics code from the engine, I am learning that myself.
Firstly, how are you connecting to your cars port (thing that looks like a scart lead). Is it a ELM USB lead (Scart lead look alike) or a bluetooth version?
If it is USB do the following.
1. Start Multiecuscan and press F9 OR select settings.
2. A window should pop up, click the interfaces tab.
3. Make sure your ELM lead (scart type thing) is connected then click on 'scan for interfaces'.
It should then recognize you adapter and you will able to connect to car. If you are using a bluetooth 'wireless' and does not show it could be a number of problems.
Basically after scanning for interfaces you should ELM 327 showing in either interface 1 or interface 2. The other will show k-Line/VAGCOM.
Let me know as much detail as possible to help you
