Bizarre car breakdown. Have I fixed it.
Car: Alfa 156 2.5 V6 Veloce 2001.
My partner borrowed it on Saturday and to cut a long story short she was picking up her daughter and a female neighbour (teenager and one in her 20's). There is always immature arguments about who sits in the front. Basically the teenager sat in the front and slide the seat forward and the other on being stupid pushed it hard from behind. The seat got jammed forward further than I thought possible.
I tried to put it back that night but with the rain etc I abandoned it till daylight. Sunday my partner and I went to Tesco, she managed to get the seat back but only a few inches. I was very annoyed about the behaviour of the two girls in the car and must admit had a bit of a shout. When stopped at Tesco I sat in the passenger seat and rocked it back and forward then used a brute force technique which freed it sending me flying backwards quite heavily. Still it was free and seemed to be fine.
After shopping we got back in the car and tried to start it but it would turn and fire and die immediately. I tried it quite a few times and nothing, just the same. It was raining bad so I wondered whether it was damp but it was firing. Eventually it twigged with me about the electrics under the seat. I checked all the plugs which seemed fine and found a little black box under there. Feeling around it had an open top or whole with something that felt like foam which I had pressed down on. Tried to start the car and it immediately fired and was fine. We had been stuck there about 40 minutes in all.
I have since learned it has a fuel cut off switch under there but I am not convinced I pressed anything that felt like it. The car is fine now but I was wondering a couple of things.
1. Could me heavily hitting the seat against the back stop have triggered it.
2. Is the fuel cut off switch in that box?
Also would it show up on an ECU scan it was triggered? No lights are on.
