jtd 16v not starting (among many other things / turbo problems....)
Now at the end of my tether with my 53plate jtd 16v sportwagon, which is severely testing my love of 156s. Latest thing is it won't start - usually on coldish mornings - although it is almost random. Glow plugs are now all new. Car has only done 70k miles (but a lot were in London / short journeys and the service history wasn't very complete when I got it a couple of years back.)
When it is not starting it is clearing not close to firing at all and ridiculously seemingly unrelated error messages come up - UDC (or VDC), ABS and EBD!! Any ideas?
This is on top of an already hideously drawn out and expensive saga where, following some diagnostics and poking about by my local garage (which ended in replacement of the main turbo pipe), there was a distinct lack of low down power. Not trusting the original garage to poke further who said it was all OK, it then started going into limp mode after revving to 3k. So no power down low and limp mode over 3K - great! so I then took the car to a mate / another local garage who claimed to have all the diagnostic gear. Allegedly it was a turbo problem, so it was sent for rebuilding to Recoturbo. On refitting it was even worse and severely overboosting and then the 'fun' really began. Turbo people said it could't possibly be their rebuilt turbo, so pretty well everything was changed and or checked, including (ridiculously) new MAF sensor, EGR valve, turbo operating solenoid etc etc etc. still no use so Turbo was questioned again and Recoturbo rebuilt it again. It was then a lot better but not right, so the vacuum pump was changed!! But it's still never been right and drops into limp mode. Bizarely it then started making more of a wheezing noise when accelerating - like a slipping CVT transmission and it then started driving almost well - very rarely dropping into limp mode. But now the glow plugs have been changed its back to more regularly dropping into limp mode - but only if the b*****y thing starts of course. Apparently the injector spray pattern is also poor, but I've no idea if this is anything to with it all. Suggestions appreciated - but yes I should get rid of it, I know....
