I'm having some trouble with the battery on my 147 JTD Ti (56), hoping someone can tell me if to replace the battery.
Most recently I was out driving and got a warning beep with 'battery charge level low' or similar. I instantly lost power steering but otherwise kept running. I tried cutting the ignition for a second as i've occasionally had wierd errors which go away on restart (ecu issue?), but this remained. I managed to get home with heavy steering, on parking up I had enough power to start the engine but having left it for a couple of hours it was flat.
Is this just a case of a problem battery I need to replace? If so what battery is recommended? I'm not very technical and don't no much about batteries or the best place to get one.
some background details that might be relevant or not:
- many months ago for no apparent reason car didn't start one time only - bump started.
-a few weeks ago, whilst waiting with radio and heater on i drained the battery so much that it needed a bump start. (i guess it was about 15mins, wasnt expecting to be that long)
-the other day I was replacing the door handle, I had the door disconnected and the radio suddently died and the battery was dead. I had just the ignition on and radio low for maybe 5mins max.
-occasionally while driving along I notice the the dash panel flicker (no light for a second), this seems to happen more often lately.
-finally it may be of no relevance but i've had a side light out and get accompaning sidelight warning on the dash. I only mention this because a friend who has an older alfa said something about leaving a warning light too long caused him some secondary problem.... i do notice that the warning area of the digital dash sometimes has a slight glow even when ignition is off.
Should I just get down to halford and get a new battery? Try to borrow a charger and see if it'll charge manually?
