Sorry to bugger all of you asking so many questions!
but as I classify Alfa's as 'not just a car, it's an Alfa', the best answers I can get from is here where all the true Alfa owners are at.

Well, one after one, my desire to modify my GT never ceases.

I'd love to have a nice grunt of diesel even though it's only a 4 pot turbo diesel.

If I proceed, I will probably get it de-catted and put a nice system on it but just don't know what to opt for.

Also, how much would it cost generally? Like a good system seems to be possible to get around £200 and fittings, well, hope garages are not too bothered to put it on like I had to go through with my headlight bulbs.

Would anyone recommend a good exhaust system?

First, get shot of the precat pipe which will spool the turbo faster and release backpressure:

Then options are open for a custom job. Personally though I'd order one of these raggazon centre pipes and get a rear silencer done locally:

Alfa Romeo Shop - Tuning, Styling, Fanartikel und Modellautos - Ragazzon Edelstahl Mittelrohr Ragazzon Edelstahl Mittelrohr 32100

If you know how to buy that little lot for £200 let me know because I was quoted circa £400 for a turbo back system on a 156 minus the precat pipe! The pre-cat is difficult to fashion so won't be cheap anyway. Happy hunting.
